Last week readers it has been reported that Radio announcer Tony fenton has or had cancer.

This has been a huge shock to the local and rural and community based radio stations that know Tony for his skill Live on the air.  When reading the paper last week, I was totally speechless.  Hosting the hotline in the 80s and 90s and his slogan was yourrrrrrrrrrr the winnnerrrrrrrrrrrr!  From 7-9pm which connected to a younger fan base at that time.  If you listen back to his shows that he hosted on the other radio stations and now in 2013 This illness occurs onto him.  Being determined to beat this thing once and for all and beat it down.  I can assure you on this one, there are a lot of Tony Fenton supporters giving him the support and to his former broadcast colleagues that knew him and worked alongside him.  This shocking story has been told in a daily news paper just last week and by reading that it left me dumbfounded!  People that know him, he is a very well respected and a decent man.  I be direct and to the point people, I did not want to Write this!    This was a sudden decision by myself to do this report and as usual.  In my Own words and context.  Any radio announcer that has a condition like that there is no question in my mind, what next?  And I am asking myself that very same thing.  I listened to his shows in the early days and he knows his stuff better than I do.  Rather let that in for the amusement of your Reading.

All I can say here and now by writing this blog.  His on air personality was so popular to the young fan base in the 90s if you remember fans growing up and listening to him he has that ability to connect to its listeners everyday from 7-9pm.  The hotline was just a huge hit to the fans, cause it gave them the opportunity to call into the show and ask for a song to be played.  Typical Tony Delivered the goods to his listeners and that is what I re call about the hotline in the early years.  Finally Not to mention this, Do you re-call the Hotline card? Those were the cards to call into the show, man times have changed!  It was a card that you slot into the pay phone and ring into the show I forgot about that I did.  Till I researched something, till I saw the Hotline phone card.  It was just a Huge hit to fans and it was over the top, in a good way.   But When I think of those years, it brings me fond memories!   Our fond memory was when he was calling a listener and his skill of connecting to the viewers was just professional.  And that was part of being on radio, being professional.  Cause re-called if the person was unavailable to take the call, he will allow to take that person on his or her behalf and take the prize.  The show was respectful to its viewers, cause it was a success and it worked.  That is what I re-called about the Hotline.  Fans who tuned into the Weeknight slot with Tony fenton, fans were starting to grow up and possible tune over to another Radio station, which other Radio stations these days  may offer more.
